Ghaziabad : The Ghaziabad District Magistrate has ordered the deduction of a day's salary of the Chief Medical Officer for not being present during her inspection of a hospital on Wednesday.

Chief Medical Officer Ajay Agrawal of the Government MMG Hospital was missing when District Magistrate S. Nayyar inspected it despite being told about her visit a day earlier, official sources said.

When officials telephoned Agrawal to request him to reach the hospital, there was no response.

During her inspection, Nayyar found poor infrastructural facilities and hygiene. Many patients were seated on the ground. Cleanliness of washrooms was pathetic.

Some patients complained to the District Magistrate that the sanitation staff misbehaved with them.

Agarwal has been the Chief Medical Officer of Ghaziabad since July 2011 as his elder brother is a senior IAS officer in Lucknow.

"The DM instructed the Chief Medical Superintendent to improve the services in the absence of the Chief Medical Officer," said Additional District Magistrate Preeti Jaiswal.
