Video Games at work

New Delhi : Playing games during short breaks at work can refill workers with energy, finds a new study.

It has been seen that people suffer from cognitive fatigue related to stress, frustration, and anxiety while at work. This may lead to errors.

Researchers from the University of Central Florida in the US conducted a small test on a batch of 66 people who were first induced to cognitive fatigue and then were given a five-minute break during their stressful work.

During the break, they either played games or sat quietly without their phones and computers.

Those who took a silent rest break reported that they felt less engaged with work and experienced worry as a result, whereas those who participated in the guided relaxation activity saw reductions in negative affect and distress. Only the video game players reported that they felt better after taking the break.

The study was published in the journal Human Factors.
