Hyderabad :

After Cricket Association of Bengal elected Saurav Ganguly the president, former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin has filed his nomination for the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president’s post.

The question remains over his eligibly to contest the association polls, which is to be held on January 17.  The former Indian middle order batsman needs BCCI clearance as life ban was imposed on him for fixing.

According to HCA, Azhar do not fulfil the criteria to contest in the polls.

The BCCI had banned Azhar for life in 2000 for his alleged involvement in match-fixing. In 2012, however, the Andhra Pradesh High Court struck down the ban.

The former Congress MP, said he will contest the polls and has all the qualities to be HCA president.

The former skipper has played 99 Test matches and hogged the limelight by hitting consecutive three centuries in his first three Tests.

A Bollywood movie has been made on the controversial life of Md Azharuddin. In 2014, Azhar lost the Lok Sabha polls on the Congress ticket.
