Apple iPhone production in India suspended amid 21-day lockdown

New Delhi : With the Indian government imposing a nationwide 21-day lockdown on Tuesday evening to combat coronavirus, Apple has suspended the iPhone production in India till April 14. Foxconn and Wistron, the two manufacturers for iPhone models in the country, have shut down their production facilities to adhere to the government order.

The two manufacturers are also the key makers for other smartphone brands in India.

Foxconn and Wistron have suspended all their production plants in India to comply with the lockdown order, reports Bloomberg.

No details have been revealed on which smartphone device production will be impacted more with the suspension.

However, the two contract manufacturers mainly produce older iPhone models that cater to the domestic demand. These include models such as the iPhone XR and iPhone SE among others.

Recently, it was reported that Apple has no plans to manufacture iPhone 11 models in India and would continue its production in China. 

With the mega lockdown in the nation, the production of other mobile companies has also been affected. Oppo, Realme, and Vivo have also shut down their local manufacturing plants.
