Vikalp organises 'ME Zone WE Zone' at government school in Delhi

New Delhi : Vikalp...Searching Together-Learning Together, a non-profit organisation had conducted one of its Adolescent and Youth Development programme "ME Zone WE Zone" in a govt girls school, No.2 located in Block B of Yamuna Vihar, Delhi and celebrated this journey of students as culmination event on December 5, 2017.

'ME Zone WE Zone' is a six week programme and all 233 students of 12th standard from this school were part of the programme. The sessions catered to the needs and concerns of the students about the physical, emotional and psycho-social changes exploring all aspects of their "Self". 

The programme was weaved around their lived experiences and encouraged expressing themselves in order to cultivate trust and empathy for others creating more harmonious and safe environment for everyone.

Ms. Pooja Akshay, the programme coordinator and President of the organisation presented a brief about the programme and shared the insights of the intervention along with its outcome. The special guests of the event were Ms. Archana Vishwadeep, Deputy Director (District North East) and Ms. Neelam Yadav, Deputy Director (Zone IV) from Directorate of Education (DoE). Ms. Archana Vishwadeep appreciated the programme and encouraged children to believe in themselves and focus on positive things in their lives. 

The chief guest of the programme was Ms. Asheema Singh, a UNFPA Consultant and an educationist who is currently posted at National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) as Project Coordinator, Adolescence Education Programme who delivered the key note address. 

She elaborated the difference between given identity and chosen identity of any individual and motivated children to overcome their challenges with positive attitude and hard work to achieve their dreams. 

The Principal of the school, Dr. Kanchan Jain who had been very pro-active and supportive in conducting these session highlighted the importance of such programmes for school students and evinced her wish for continuing such efforts. 

The programme started with gallery walk in which the learning of the students from this programme was showcased through the slogans and posters made by students. The change stories shared by students in an activity 'Ek Kadam Badlav Ka' (One Step of Change) were also displayed. A theatre performance "Me, You and We" and a dance performance on women empowerment was also done. The last performance of the programme was a song 'Kya Khayal Hai' which was about promoting the culture of talking, discussion and dialoguing through which any problem can be solved.

All the students were given certificates for actively participating in the programme. The winners of the Children's Day Poster Making competition 2017 were also felicitated on this occasion. The culmination programme ended with lots of wishes to the students along with encouraging them to share their learning from this programme with the juniors in the school and people in their surrounding too.
