Ban on NDTV India put on hold by Government
New Delhi : The Information and Broadcasting Ministry (I&B) has put on hold its order imposing a one-day ban on NDTV India for revealing strategically-sensitive details while covering the Pathankot terrorist attack.
It may be mentioned here that the decision came after NDTV chairman Prannoy Roy met Minister for Information & Broadcasting Venkaiah Naidu on Monday evening, as per the ministry statement.
However, earlier in the day, NDTV India moved to the Supreme Court against the government's order banning its telecast for a day for its coverage of the Pathankot attack.
Earlier in the day, NDTV India had challenged in Supreme Court the move to ban the Hindi news channel. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear NDTV's appeal on Tuesday.
The Editors Guild of India had issued a strong statement condemning the government’s decision to black out NDTV India saying the move brings back memories of the emergency.
Opposition politicians had slammed the government move for silencing freedom of press.
