Jisha Murder case: Kerala session court finds lone accused guilty

Kerala : The lone accused in the Jisha murder case has been found guilty by Kerala sessions court on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Ameerul Islam, was found guilty of rape and murder by the court.

Ameerul Islam has been accused of brutal rape and murder of Jisha, a law student from Perumbavoor on April 28, 2016.

The court praised investigation team which used DNA technology and call record data to pinpoint the Ameerul's involvement. 

Ameerul's DNA was found on the clothes of Jisha, on the door frame of her house and on the knife used for the crime proved his involvement.

He has been charged under IPC 449, 342, 376, 376 (A) and 302. Since the evidences were not destroyed, the court dropped Section 201.

The trial, which began on April 4, went on for 85 days. As many as 100 witnesses, including 15 migrant labourers, were examined by the prosecution which also presented circumstantial evidence before the court against the accused.

Ameerul Islam was arrested by cops nearly two months after the crime.
