New Delhi : Though pizza, burger, pasta, tacos or lasagne tickle our taste-bud, we feel of food completely when we eat our desi food. Be it biryani, rajma or jalebi, we can hardly resist ourselves from having a bite. But, do you know these food items are not Indian. Yes, after a thorough research, we came up with list of 10 Indian food items which are not of Indian origin.

  • Samosa

Samosas actually originated in the Middle East and were called 'Sambosa'. They were filled with meat. Traders from central Asia introduced them to Indians.    

  • Gulab Jamun

 The yummy-tasty-chashni dipped gulab jamuns are actually recipe from Persia. They were called 'Lokma' or 'Luqmat-al-qadi'. 

  • Jalebi

This heavenly sweet is also the gift of Persia and Arab. All love to them!

  • Tea

Tea actually came from Britain. A cup of tea can calm down yourself. 

  • Naan

Naan originated in Iran and later, popularised in India by the Mughals. 

  • Biryani 

Biryani as a food took birth in Turkey, and during the Mughal period took the form of biryani in India.   

  • Rajma

Rajma originated from Mexico and Guatemala. The initial preparation is inspired from Mexican dishes. 

  • Chicken Tikka Masala

The king of non-veg dishes chicken tikka was first prepared by a chef in Glasgow, UK, after the customer complained about dry chicken. The humble dish then won the heart of every Indian.

  • Shukto 

The Bengali delicacy Shukto has its roots in Portugal. It spread in Bengal via Goa. Shukto, in Kerala is prepared from Bitter Gourd (Karela). 

  • Dal-Bhat 

The concept of Dal Bhat came from Nepal to India. From the North, it slowly spread over all the regions and constitutes a huge part of our food.
