New Delhi : Possibly, the seven-years-old Lavishka Nagar has set a record by trekking the peaks of Roopkund. Her father Ujjwal Nagar, a trekking enthusiast from Vadodara decided to take his seven-year-old daughter Lavishka for a trek to Roopkund. Not all can think to take kids in such a high altitude routes but he did. Ujjwal says, “Her grandparents didn’t think it was a great idea, but Lavishka was pretty enthusiastic. But still, given the high altitude and the cold, I had my doubts about how well she would cope with it.”

The idea of taking Lavishka for trekking was not enthusiastic for family members but she left all stunned with what she did. The little girl studies in Navrachana School, Sama and has become the pride of our nation. When reporters asked her about her experience, she said “Main toh sab se pehle pahonch gayi upar tak. And then, when I saw that the others were not even close, I asked my father, ‘Arre dad, bas yeh hi summit hai?’ Some people were even touching my feet after I climbed down.”

The father-daughter duo not only impressed everyone with their achievement but Lavishka also received an appreciation certificate (‘green getter’ certificate), as they were there with a message of cleanliness for our mountains. “Along the way, we found a lot of plastic bags and we made sure that we picked up all of them. Maine sab se jyaada plastic bags collect kiye.” Adds Ujjwal, “Like many other routes, this route was also full of plastics bags and materials that people throw around. We were carrying eco-friendly bags with us and we put all the plastic inside those. Together, me and Lavishka collected about 12 kg of plastic stuff!”

For now, the adorable Lavishka will be attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in the coming October. If she succeeds in trekking the mountain ranges, it will certainly make her the youngest girl in the world to climb it. Ujjwal says “We have done around 10 to 12 treks earlier, but Roopkund was the toughest one so far.” Adds Lavishka, “I am preparing well and almost every day, I run for about three to five kilometers. I have been interested in athletics ever since I was three years old and I also love swimming. Sometimes, we do trekking trips to Pavagadh as well.” Ujjwal adds, “In the next few months, we will make sure that she trains more extensively. Lavishka is a very disciplined kid and I am confident that she will manage to do everyone proud. Her endurance levels are also amazing. Even after a 20-km walk, she doesn’t get tired and is ready for a dance session! Yoga and breathing exercises have also helped her a lot. While it is difficult to get shoes and jackets that are suitable for such small kids during these expeditions, we don’t mind ordering it from Europe for her.”

Best wishes to Lavishka and her family!
