New Delhi : Yes, we are out of danger! An asteroid was determined to be on a collision course with Earth, with impact just few hours away, confirms NASA. A meteor enlightened the sky over Botswana in Africa, at just 6-feet across.

NASA US space agency, however, mentions that the asteroid was just 6-feet across, it was deemed too small to pose any danger.

Scientists named the asteroid as 2018 LA was discovered out near the moon’s orbit early Saturday morning.

“It was determined to be on a collision course with Earth, with impact just hours away,” NASA officials said.

The asteroid stormed into Earth at about 61,155km/h meaning it covered 17 kilometres every second before incinerating as it hit a farm in the small African nation

It’s only the third time scientists have spotted an incoming asteroid on a direct collision course with Earth. The previous times were in 2008 and 2014.

“This was a much smaller object than we are tasked to detect and warn about,” NASA’s planetary defense officer, Lindley Johnson, said in a statement.

“However, this real-world event allows us to exercise our capabilities and gives some confidence our impact prediction models are adequate to respond to the potential impact of a larger object.”

A video posted on YouTube by Melissa Delport has gone viral. It shows the asteroid burning up in the evening sky over Botswana, eight hours after first being discovered by the space agency
