Assam Police on Saturday registered five cases against Mamata Banerjee over her provocative remarks regarding the Assam National Register of Citizens (NRC) issue in different police stations.

A video that has gone viral shows a young woman in Assam has been being brutally beaten up by a group of men. The video also shows drunken men thrashing the woman's male friend. Police is trying to solve the case on priority basis as the issue may create communal violence.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday dismissed reports of cow vigilantes indulging in communal violence, saying that on the contrary those protecting bovines within the constitutional framework were being "attacked and killed".
