E-Commerce website suggests bomb making items to its customers, probe ordered

London : The online shopping portal Amazon.com saw flak after a British television reported that it has been suggesting bomb-making items to customers.

According to a report by Channel 4 News, the online portal suggested its customers the deadly explosive materials under “Frequently bought together” and “Customers who bought this also bought” features.

“Ingredients for black powder and thermite are grouped together under a “Frequently bought together” section on listings for specific chemicals,” found the British broadcaster. Material like ball bearings, ignition systems and remote detonators that could be used in the bomb-making process were available under “Customers who bought this item also bought” category of Amazon.com.

Taking a cue from the news report, the Amazon has ordered internal probe in the matter and assured that all products selling on the website ‘must adhere to our selling guidelines and comply with UK laws’.

“In light of recent events, we are reviewing our website to ensure that all these products are presented in an appropriate manner,” the statement continued. “We also continue to work closely with police and law enforcement agencies when circumstances arise where we can assist their investigations.”
