Medical Miracle: World's first human head transplant successful

Vienna : In what could be termed as a medical miracle, the world's first human head has been transplanted successfully by controversial Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero, said a report. 

Dr Sergio Canavero on Friday claimed that with his own developed techniques, he was able to reconnect the spine, nerves and blood vessels on a corpse to demonstrate that such a procedure will in the near future allow two bodies to live together.

The total time taken the surgery is claimed to be of 18 hours. 

According to The Telegraph, which broke the news, Dr Canavero said, “The first human transplant on human cadavers has been done. A full head swap between brain-dead organ donors is the next stage. And that is the final step for the formal head transplant for a medical condition which is imminent.”

Though he made all the claims without any proof, but the promise that proof for the same will be uploaded in public domain soon.

“The first human head transplant, in the human mode, has been realised. The paper will be released in a few days. Everyone said it was impossible. But the surgery was successful,” The Telegraph quoted him as saying.

A Russian man identified as Valery Spiridinov has reportedly registered with him for a head transplant. Spiridinov’s head will be frozen and a donor identified who will then have the Russian’s man head transplanted onto his body.

The surgeon also claims to have transplanted rat's head successfully.
