Modi government rejects snub reports against Justin Trudeau

New Delhi : Some section of media blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi of snubbing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with less than a warm welcome during his visit to India. PM Modi, who has broken protocols several times to receive foreign ministers did not come to receive Trudeau as he landed in India.

Canadian media framed it as Narendra Modi government snubbing their Prime Minister.

Bharatiya Janata Party straightaway rejected the snub speculations and said normal diplomatic protocals have been followed to Trudeau. PM Narendra Modi will be holding bilateral talks with his Canadian counterpart on Friday.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, along with his wife and three children, landed in India on Friday night for a week-long visit.

Commentators in the Canadian media highlighted that Shekhawat received Trudeau at the Delhi airport and contrasted this against PM Modi himself receiving several world leaders at the airport. "On official state visits to India, PM Modi personally greets and welcomes the Israeli PM, UAE Crown Prince, and US President. For PM Trudeau, he sends a low-ranking official. 'Canada is back'," tweeted Canadian author and columnist Candice Malcolm.
