Delhi : Kia India has announced a recall of the popular Carens three-row utility vehicle to address software issues. A total of 30,297 units of the Carens will be brought in for a software update, which will be conducted free of cost. Owners will be notified and requested to visit the company's service center for inspection and, if necessary, the software update.

Importance of Kia Carens in Sales Lineup

Following the Sonet and Seltos, the Kia Carens holds significant sales importance in the company's lineup. Out of the total 18,766 units sold by Kia last month, the Sonet emerged as the top seller with 8,251 units, while the Carens secured the second position with 6,367 units sold. Seltos sales stood at 4,065 units. Currently, the Kia Carens has a waiting period of approximately 10 months, depending on the trim level.

Second Recall for Kia Carens

This marks the second recall for the Kia Carens since its launch in February 2022. The previous recall took place in October 2022, involving over 4,000 units of the Carens due to software-related issues.

Reason for Recall: Instrument Cluster Issue

The recall is related to the instrument cluster of the Kia Carens, which experiences booting problems and may cause the digital instrument cluster to go blank. The software update will rectify this issue. All models manufactured between September 2022 and February 2023 are being recalled for the necessary update.

Powertrain and Feature Updates

Kia India has also updated the powertrains of the Sonet, Seltos, and Carens, making them BS6 Phase 2 compliant. The available powertrain options include a 1.5-liter NA petrol, a 1.5-liter turbo petrol, and a 1.5-liter diesel motor.

Additionally, the update introduces new features, varying based on the trim level. These include a 12.5-inch digital instrument cluster, a leather-wrapped gear knob, and Alexa integration with the connected car platform. With the update, the prices of the Carens range from Rs 10.45 lakh to 18.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

Upcoming Launches

Apart from the ongoing recall, Kia has exciting plans for future launches. The Seltos facelift is scheduled for unveiling on July 4th, 2023, while the Carens facelift is expected to hit the market in September 2023. Kia is also preparing for the launch of the Sonet facelift later this year.
