New Delhi : The most lucrative Indian Premier League auction is likely to take place in the middle of February. Earlier, it was proposed to held on February 4. However, the BCCI has not announced any date. The IPL 2017 tournament between April 5 and May 21.

Earlier, the Supreme court removed BCCI president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke from their posts and put CEO Rahul Johri in charge. A four-member committee of administrators has been appointed by the top court and  the IPL is back on the priority list.

The committee of administrators met with the BCCI management team to discuss the immediate decisions that need to be taken concerning IPL.

The delay may be blessing in disguise for franchises and players as they can get an opportunity to showcase their talent in the ongoing Inter-State T20 tournament.

The franchises haven’t yet got the final roster of players which they usually get two weeks ahead of the auction.

All existing player contracts will expire after IPL 2017 and it is expected most players will go under the hammer at the mega auction ahead of the 2018 season. There has been no decision yet on the player retention rules though.
