Delhi : Maruti Suzuki has just introduced the next-generation Swift concept at the Tokyo Mobility Show, as everyone is aware. The hatchback's testing had already begun in India, and the vehicle appeared to be nearly production-ready. A few days ago, the test mule was bugged, providing some crucial information regarding the next new model.

The 4th generation Swift is scheduled to go on sale in India in 2024, the same year it makes its global debut. The Japanese automaker will launch the Swift Sport in foreign regions in addition to the standard model. The Swift sport variant is extremely unlikely to reach Indian soil, just like the previous generation versions.

The Swift Sport will make its worldwide premiere by mid-2024, namely Spring 2024, which falls between March and May of that year, according to the most recent media sources out of Japan. For an overall sportier appearance, the hatchback's design will be more aggressively styled than that of the standard model. A significantly modified version of the current HEARTECT platform, which will be shared with the standard model, will serve as the foundation for the four-wheeler.

The main change to the current generation Swift Sport is the powertrain's integration of mid-hybrid technology. According to rumours, the next generation vehicle will continue to use a 48V mild hybrid system in conjunction with the same 1.4-liter Boosterjet Turbo petrol engine. The engine's current power output is rated at 140 horsepower and 230 Nm of peak torque. To improve the package, a few small adjustments will be made to the engine's fuel injection system and compression ratio.

The mild-hybrid motor's electric assistance may cause a little increase in power and torque, but overall output numbers should stay mostly same. Furthermore, in addition to the increased fuel efficiency numbers, there will be an improvement in the low-end torque available. Both the 6-speed automatic and 6-speed manual gearbox choices will be available.

The Swift Sport's proportions will be identical to those of the existing model, but Suzuki plans to lower the vehicle's weight for improved performance. Regarding its India launch, the standard 4th Gen Swift will go on sale in 2024, while the Sports variant won't be available until later.
