Three-year registration fee exemption for electric vehicle buyers in UP: What's the deal?
Delhi : The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has decided to eliminate road tax and registration fees on the purchase of electric vehicles for three years starting on October 14, 2022, according to a statement released on Friday.
Also, the exemption on the purchase of electric vehicles made in the state itself will be good for five years.
The RTOs of all the districts have received directions from the government to ensure that the directives be followed immediately.
According to the updated announcement made by Principal Secretary L. Venkateshwarlu, the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022 provides that from October 14, 2022, to October 13, 2025, all electric vehicles (EVs) sold and registered in Uttar Pradesh will be completely exempt from taxes.
Also, a 100% rebate will be offered on EVs made, marketed, and registered in the state from October 14, 2025, to October 13, 2027, which is the fourth and fifth years of the Electric Vehicle Policy's implementation period, which was announced on October 14, 2022.
The definition of "electric cars" has also been clarified. This defines EV as any vehicle that has an electric motor and is powered by batteries, ultracapacitors, or fuel cells.
All two-, three-, and four-wheeled vehicles, as well as strong hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), battery electric vehicles (BEV), and fuel cell electric vehicles, fall under this category (FCEV).
3,997 EV owners in Agra who were assessed taxes and the registration price between October 14, 2022, and now will benefit from the ruling.
The Divisional Transport Office (RTO) of Agra now has 11340 registered electric vehicles (EVs), of which 3997 have been purchased since October 14, 2022. This number includes 30 vehicles, 437 e-rickshaws, and the remaining two-wheelers (EVs).
In addition to the central government's subsidy for the purchase of electric vehicles, the state of Uttar Pradesh has also granted an exemption.
Combined, the Central Government's and the State Government's relief measures will lower the price of two-wheelers by 15,000 to 20,000 rupees and the price of vehicles by up to 1 lakh rupees on the open road.
The government's decision will put a stop to the disparity in EV registration fees between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, and both states' and UT's rates would be the same.
The policy states that electric vehicles acquired in the state will additionally receive a 15% rebate off the factory price.
For the first 2 lakh electric two-wheelers, a subsidy of 5,000 will be provided per vehicle, up to a maximum of 12,000 for the first 50,000 electric three-wheelers, and up to 1 lakh per vehicle for the first 25,000 electric four-wheelers.
The first 400 buses bought in the state will receive a subsidy of up to 20 lakh each at the same time.
A 10% factory price discount will be offered to a maximum of 1000 e-goods carriers for the purchase of each vehicle up to 100,000.
Also, the government would promote the purchase of electric vehicles by government workers. The state government will also permit the employees to receive an advance for this.
