New Delhi : In a major relief for the Indian taxpayers, the CBDT has announced an extension in the last date for filing ITR for the Financial Year 2020-21 till December 31. Earlier, the last date to file Income Tax returns was till September 30.

The date has been extended considering the technical glitches in the new tax filing portal.

“On consideration of difficulties reported by the taxpayers and other stakeholders in filing of Income Tax Returns and various reports of audit for the Assessment Year 2021-22 under the Income-tax Act, 1961(the “Act”), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to further extend the due dates for filing of Income Tax Returns and various reports of audit for the Assessment Year 2021-22,” the Finance Ministry said in a statement.

The actual date of filing income tax returns was July 31; it was extended to September 31 due to continuous glitches in the tax portal.
