In latest technology development, an Israeli firm after 15 years is optimistic to get its 1.5 tonne people-carrying drone off the ground and into the market.

Their new precious Cormorant aircraft is called as a flying car capable of transporting 500kg of weight and travelling at 115 mph (or 186 kph).

In November 2016, it first completed its automated solo flight, taking off, flying and landing by itself.

The firm Urban Aeronautics believe that the drone will be majorly used by Army working in hostile environments to fly rather than helicopter propellers, when it hits the market in 2020. The estimated cost of manned drone is $14 million USD.

Informing media, Founder and CEO of Urban Aeronautics Rafi Yoeli said, “Just imagine a dirty bomb in a city and a chemical substance or something else and this vehicle can come in robotically, remotely piloted, come into the street and decontaminate an area.”

The company was set by Yoeli in 2001 in Yavne, central Israel, to create the vehicle.

He believes that his dream vehicle is safer than a helicopter as it can fly in between buildings and below power lines without the risk of blade strikes.

However, there is still plenty of work required before the 2020 launch as it still needs to meet all Federal Aviation Administration standards.

According to reports, November’s test also saw small issues with conflicting data sent by sensors.

The Cormorant, named after an aquatic bird, definitely marks a new phase in the aviation sector.
