Environmental Clearance Accelerates Development of IMC Gaya – Bihar’s First Integrated Industrial Township
New Delhi : In a significant stride towards realizing the vision of Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar and Industries Minister Shri Nitish Mishra, IMC Gaya a flagship Greenfield industrial smart city project under the Amritsar–Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC) has successfully received Environmental Clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), GoI for 1670 acre area.
Spearheaded by Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Ltd. (BIMCGL), a SPV incorporated between GoI & GoB. this statutory approval marks a major milestone in transforming Bihar into a leading hub for industrial growth.
Under the visionary leadership of both the Government of India and the State Government, IMC Gaya is poised to become a beacon of industrial growth in Eastern India. The project aims to seamlessly integrate economic opportunity with sustainability, transforming the region into a vibrant center of innovation, enterprise, and inclusive development. IMC Gaya is set to revolutionize the industrial landscape of Bihar, with Bodh Gaya being developed into the state’s first integrated Industrial Township a model of long-term economic development and industrial excellence.
The grant of Environmental Clearance (EC) for IMC Gaya (1670 acre) on March 18, 2025, by MoEF&CC is a landmark development and a crucial milestone. This clearance, granted under the ‘Industrial Area’ category within an expedited timeline of just seven months, will enable upcoming industrial units at IMC Gaya to obtain clearance without separate public hearings which is a time consuming activity.
This acceleration of state-level approvals will be a kind of intensive and expected to enhance investor confidence, improve project visibility, and attract significant private sector investment, thereby speeding up the development process.
IMC Gaya is a landmark pilot project developed jointly by the Government of Bihar and the Government of India.
It is to be noted that IMC Gaya is Bihar’s first integrated Industrial Township, developed under the flagship Amritsar–Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC) project of Govt of India, a national initiative aimed at unlocking the industrial potential of Eastern India. By connecting with the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), the project seeks to enhance regional industrial capacities and establish a sustainable, world-class infrastructure. Spanning over 1,000+ acres of Industrial plots, IMC Gaya will have meticulously planned industrial plots, multimodal connectivity, power, and water, drainage, and logistics facilities. This ambitious project is implemented by BIMCGL, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) formed by NICDIT and BIADA, with strong support from both Central and State agencies.
In another significant development, a recent joint site visit was conducted to assess the proposed water storage site and pipeline alignment, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the water infrastructure for IMC Gaya. The focus of the visit was to evaluate water availability and its integration into the overall industrial township layout.
The site visit was attended by key stakeholders, including the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA), and Water Resources Department, Bihar, National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee, Forest Department, Bihar, and Gaya District Administration officials.
This visit followed an earlier evaluation of external road connectivity, reinforcing the project’s commitment to integrated, coordinated planning for a seamless industrial ecosystem.
