New Delhi : The ashes of Sridevi, who is often hailed as India's first female superstar, has been brought to Chennai where her husband Boney Kapoor and family will immerse them in the sea near Rameswaram.

The ashes, brought by Boney in a special aircraft, was taken to pilgrimage town of Rameswaram on March 3, a source told PTI.

Sridevi was cremated on Wednesday with state honours and, on Saturday her ashes were immersed in the sea at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.Husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor carried our Sridevi’s Asthi Visarjan ritual.

The actress was found lying unconscious in a bathtub, in Dubai, on February 24. After postmortem, doctors said that she died due to 'accidental drowning.' She had gone to Dubai to attend a family wedding with her husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi.

Her mortal remains were brought back in India on February 27. A state funeral was held in Mumbai on February 28 with celebs gathering at her residence to pay their respects to Sridevi.

Sridevi had been a child actress and worked in regional films in southern India before making her Bollywood debut in the late 1970s.
