Mumbai : Actor Will Smith has been banned from the Oscars for the next 10 years for his slapping action against Chris Rock in the recent event. The decision was taken at a Board of Governors meeting in Los Angeles on Friday.

Recently, Will Smith has announced his retirement from the Academy.

For those who are not aware about the incident, Chris Rock had cracked a joke on Will Smith's wife to which ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’ star walked on the stage and slapped the host. Smith returned to his seat and shouted, “Keep my wife’s name out of your fu**ing mouth!”

After a few minutes, Will Smith was announced as the best actor at the 94th Academy Awards. During the acceptance speech, he apologized to Chris Rock.

He also made a public apology a day later on the social media. "I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be," Will Smith wrote in a post on Instagram.
