AAP asks DMRC to ban matchbox, lighters; alerts legal action against culprits

New Delhi : Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday issued a notice to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) asking them to put a ban on matchboxes and lighters in the trains and metro station premises.

The notice has been issued on the grounds that such products promote smoking under the Section 4 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act.

If DMRC does not take any action on the notice then Aam Aadmi Party may opt for a legal route against them and also the commuters, suggest a report.

In January this year, lighters and matchboxes were removed from the list of restricted items by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and also passengers were allowed to carry tools to work.

There are more than 50 items which commuters are not allowed to take up during their travel in the Delhi Metro. The items include guns, firearms, knife, sword, flammable items, dangerous chemicals, liquor etc.
