Assam girl, set on fire after alleged gangrape, dies

There's tension in Assam after a class 5 student was allegedly gang-raped in Nagaon district

New Delhi : A class 5 student was allegedly gang-raped in Nagaon district, Assam and was set on fire. The victim suffered 90 per cent burn injuries and finally died. There's tension in the state after this shocking incident.

Sources confirmed that three boys allegedly gang-raped a class five student in Assam's Nagaon district. Later, the rapists poured kerosene set on fire on the victim. The girl, who had suffered 90 per cent burn injuries, died late at night. 

At the hospital where she was rushed by her parents, the girl gave her statement to the police that the three boys poured kerosene and set her on fire after raping her.  Within a few hours, the police have detained two of the accused and are on search for the third. 

Since, the accused are minors, a case will be filed under the Juvenile Justice Act.

Shankar Raimedhi, Superintendent of Police, Nagaon, told NDTV over the phone. "We have recorded a dying declaration... Based on that two of the accused have been caught; they will be produced in court today," He also added that, a medical test to confirm rape could not be conducted "due to the severity of the injuries.
