Bodies of 15 trapped Meghalaya miners found

Meghalaya : Bodies of 15 trapped Meghalaya miners have been found by the navy divers from a rat-hole coal mine, said an official. They were trapped there since December 13.

"One body detected by Indian Navy divers using underwater ROV at a depth of approx 160 feet and 210 feet inside a rat-hole mine," a Navy spokesperson said in a statement.

The bodies have been brought up to the mouth of the coal mine. However, the extraction will be done under the supervision of doctors, the official added.

An official statement from the district authorities is still awaited. 

15 miners were trapped inside the rat hole coal mine after water filled inside it suddenly post rains. Mining in the area has been barred in the area.
