Cheer up! Southwest monsoon hits Kerala, says IMD

New Delhi : And it's here. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday announced that Southwest monsoon has finally arrived in Kerala.

The IMD statement also mentioned how southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of south Arabian Sea, Maldives, Comorin area and southwest Bay of Bengal.

Earlier, it was told that monsoon will arrive around June 7 with an error margin of plus minus four days.

With heavy rains in Kerala, showers have also been reported from several parts of Tamil Nadu in last 24 hours.

The IMD has also made a forecast of "heavy" to "very heavy" rain at isolated places over coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, sub-Himalayan West Bengal , Sikkim and "heavy" rains at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh , Assam , Meghalaya, Rayalseema region of Andhra Pradesh and south interior Karnataka.

Northwest side of India will still have to deal with heat waves as no significant drop in temperature can be seen in coming days.
