New Delhi : The Election Commission has announced that 16th Presidential poll to elect the next President of India will be held on July 18 this year.

Chief Election Commissioner in a press conference said that the schedule for upcoming Presidential polls has been fixed by the ECI; the notification for the same will be issued on June 15, last date to file nomination is June 29. The elections will be held on July 18 and if required, the counting of votes will be done on July 21.

He also announced that all coronavirus related protocols will be followed on the polling day.

Current President Ram Nath Kovind's five year tenure is scheduled to end on July 24, 2022. According to Article 62 of the Indian constitution, the post is to refilled on the basis of an election.

According to EC, the total value of votes for all MPs combined is 5,43,200 and States is 5,43,231.
