Class X board exams will return from next academic year, says Prakash Javadekar

New Delhi : The government has decided to reintroduce class X board exams for CBSE schools from the academic year 2017-18. 

Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters in Jaipur about government’s decision to reintroduce class X board examination.

The HRD minister also said state governments will be given authority to reintroduce class V and VIII board examinations, a proposal for which will be tabled in the Cabinet and then in Parliament.

"The decision to conduct class V and VIII board examinations will be left with the state," Javadekar said.

The decision has been taken with a motive to improve quality of education, with a special focus on government schools. 

He informed that enrolment in government school in Rajasthan has increased by 15 lakh where Utkarsh Adarsh schools have been opened at panchayat level.
