Gold smuggling in Jet Airways, 2 staffers held

New Delhi : The custom department at the New Delhi airport held two Jet Airways staffers for smuggling gold, said an official statement. 

Acting on an input, a Jet Airways technician was intercepted on Wednesday. A detailed personal search resulted in recovery of four gold bars, weighing 1.3 kg, valued at Rs 43.36 lakh, from the pocket of a trouser worn by him, the customs department said in the statement.

During interrogation, the man confessed that he was supposed to deliver the gold bars to a man waiting at the aerocity Metro Station near Indira Gandhi International Airport.

A team of customs officials then arrested the receiver at the mentioned Metro Station.

“The officers were trying to catch the person who may have brought gold and handed it over to the Jet Airways technician,” a senior customs official added.
