Heat wave kills 167 people in Telangana, temperature reels near 46 degrees

Hyderabad : At least 167 people lost their lives to the scorching heat in Telangana since April 1, a senior official said in Hyderabad. However, it is yet to be confirmed that all lost lives are a result of unbearable heatwave.

"These (167) deaths (till date) should be confirmed by the committees as heatwave deaths. Then only it can be recognised as heatwave deaths and financial assistance will be sanctioned accordingly.

"All the deaths are currently under scrutiny. No death has been confirmed as a heatwave death as yet," the official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Telangana had been burning over 40 degree Celsius from past some days. According to MeT department the situation will prevail for next one more week.

Bhadrachalam, Ramagundam and Nalgonda were the hottest places in the state with each recording maximum temperature of 46 degrees celsius, it added.
