India reports 28,591 fresh coronavirus cases, 14% less than yesterday

New Delhi : India on Sunday morning logged 28,591 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, 14 per cent lower than yesterday's cases (33,376). The positivity rate in the nation stands at 1.87 per cent. 

With 20,487 cases, Kerala had a major share in the new cases reported today. The state also reported 181 deaths.

Tamil Nadu with 1,639 Covid cases, Andhra Pradesh (1,145) and Karnataka (801) were other southern states with most cases. Telangana reported 296 cases.

Meanwhile, in the national capital no deaths have been reported due to coronavirus in last 24 hours. The city reported 35 fresh cases and the positivity rate stands at 0.05 per cent.

Neighbouring Uttar Pradesh reported 14 new cases and 10 Covid deaths in a day.

West Bengal reported 752 new cases and 14 deaths, while neighbouring Odisha reported 630 cases and 8 Covid deaths.

India's coronavirus tally has climbed to 33,236,921, according to the ministry of health and family welfare's data at 9 am. Meanwhile, a total of 34,848 more people were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries in the country to 32,409,345.
