Joshimath Sinking: No new cracks developed after January 7, unsafe hotels to be demolished

New Delhi : Amid a fearful environment at Joshimath, 2 hotels which are considered unsafe will be demolished soon. Meanwhile, a top government official has claimed that no new cracks have been developed and old cracks have not widened due to preventive steps taken in the last one week.

In a news report, the government official has mentioned that 2 buildings which are unsafe need to be demolished and appealed to the people to support the relief and rescue work at Joshimath by the state government.

Compensation in Joshimath

Soon after the cracks were seen in Joshimath, the authorities had asked locals to vacate the unsafe buildings. But, the locals have been protesting and asking for compensation for the damages they had faced during the crisis.

The demolition of 2 unsafe hotels is likely to start from late evening on Tuesday. However, water, electricity and telephone lines have been removed from the area by the administration. The affected residents are now demanding for a proper rehabilitation and compensation. They have claimed that they will not vacate the building until the government gives them an assurance of a proper compensation.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday met Governor Gurmeet Singh to apprise him of the situation in Joshimath, which is facing land subsidence. During the meeting, the Governor sought a complete report on Joshimath from Dhami.

It must be noted that the government has already said that the safety of people residing in the unsafe areas at Joshimath is their top priority. They also insured that the management will take care of the rehabilitation of the affected people from the area.
