Karnataka drug peddler held for filing I-T return of Rs 40 lakh

Bengaluru : Not everyone in India hides earning generated via wrong sources from the Income Tax department; A Karnataka based drug peddler was arrested on Tuesday for filing an Income-Tax return for over Rs 40 lakh.

34-year-old 'labourer-turned drug peddler' Rachappa Ranga from Karnataka thought it would be patriotic enough from his end to file Income-Tax return on income generated via business build on smuggling drugs.

By profession he was portrayed as a labourer, but his wrongdoings can be measured from the fact that he used to pay Rs 40000 rent per month for staying in a villa, used to roam in luxury cars and also owned a property in his native village.

Rachappa Ranga, who had studied till Class 10, runs a big drug-peddling racket that recruited poor youths, and earned crores of rupees, reported Times of India. He came under radar after he filed an I-T return and officials started tracking his activities.

Rachapa, along with his associate Srinivas of Chandapura, was arrested with 26kg ganja and Rs 5 lakh cash. The police have also seized his mobile phone and car.

The police claim he was a top quality ganja supplier, who sold at least 30kg ganja a day for a price of Rs 35,000 per kg.
