Liquor shops to vanish from state, national highways: Supreme Court

No liquor shops on state or national highways

New Delhi : As per latest ruling the Supreme Court has decided not to renew licences of liquor shops that falls on national or state highways. The order will come into effect from April 2017.

The liquor shops must be at least 500 metres away from state and national highways, said the court, and ordered that liquor banners and ads be removed.

The orders will be implemented by the Chief Secretary and police chiefs of states.

The decision comes after several PILs were filed to move all liquor shops out from the reach of normal commuters on national highways.
