Mumbai : Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has submitted his resignation on April 5; this comes after the Bombay High Court on Monday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a preliminary investigation against him in a case filed by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.

"Bombay High Court in a petition filed by Adv Jayashri Patil has directed the CBI to conduct preliminary investigation. As a result, it is not morally correct for me to continue as state's Home Minister. I have therefore decided to resign," he mentioned in his resignation letter.

Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh had written a letter alleging that Mr Deshmukh had asked suspended police officer Sachin Vaze to collect ₹100 crore extortion money from hoteliers in the city.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested assistant police inspector Sachin Vaze on March 13 during an enquiry in a case related to explosives-laden car that was found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s mansion Antilla in Mumbai on February 25.
