No more car-o-bar in Delhi: Drinking may land you in jail

Drinking in Delhi roads may land you in jail

New Delhi : Delhi Government has asked people to keep their liquor bottles capped at least in public places or a hefty fine will be imposed with a jail term in case of nuisance.

The new rule comes into power from November 7. Rs 5000 will be fined on those found drinking in public place. If the offender creates nuisance then the fine will be doubled with a jail term.

“If someone is found consuming alcohol in public places and near liquor shops, we will get them arrested under the excise act from November 7,” deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia last week.

"Car-O-bar" is one of the ways Delhi exercise its drinking habit.

The decision was taken at a review meeting of the excise and finance department chaired by Sisodia, who had on Monday ordered sealing of a vend in Mayur Vihar after leading a raid conducted by the excise department.
