SC declares NJAC act unconstitutional, revives collegium system

New Delhi : Supreme Court on Friday struck down Centre’s plea to implement NJAC act

The governing body quashed it and declared it to be unconstitutional

SC ruled collegium system will continue

It promised to bring policies to make it more transparent and accountable

Currently, judges appoint other judges in the higher judiciary

The move left the government lawyers shocked and the proponents of the collegial system elated

Five-judge constitution bench headed by Justice JS Khehar declared the verdict

Disappointed or not politicos welcomed Supreme Court’s decision.
