Supreme Court allows Sitaram Yechury, Kashmiri students to visit Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi : Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Left's Sitaram Yechury to meet his party leaders in Jammu and Kashmir, where Centre had imposed restrictions and kept leaders under house arrest before announcing scrapping of Article 370 of the Indian constitution.

The apex body also allowed Kashmiri students to visit the Union Territory.

Rahul Gandhi and other party leaders were returned from the airport a couple of days back when they landed at Srinagar airport.

Restrictions have been imposed in Jammu and Kashmir since August 5 when government announced scrapping of Article 370 of Indian Constitution and bifurcate it into two Union Territories.

The Jammu And Kashmir Information and Public Relations Department on Friday tweeted political leaders should not "not visit Srinagar as they would be putting other people to inconvenience" at a "time when the government is trying to protect the people of Jammu and Kashmir from the threat of cross border terrorism and attacks..."

Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma were other two senior leaders from Congress who accompanied Rahul Gandhi today.

Mr Azad was twice stopped at Jammu airport, most recently on Tuesday, and was "forcibly" sent back to Delhi both times.
