Dehradun : Heavy rains in Uttarakhand resulted in collapse of a bridge over Jakhan river; several vehicles were damaged in the incident as a key road caved in. So far, no casualties have been reported in the incident but road traffic has been halted. 

Parts of a bridge over River Jakhan on the Dehradun-Rishikesh highway collapsed in Ranipokhari, ANI reported. Visuals from the spot showed several vehicles stuck in the rubble and people fleeing.  

Rescue teams and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were on the incident site conducting rescue and relief operation, the news agency's report said.

District Magistrate R Rajesh Kumar says traffic on the route has been halted.

Meanwhile, Rishikesh-Devprayag, Rishikesh-Tehri, and Dehradun-Mussoorie roads have been closed due to landslides at many places following rains over the past 3-4 days, the state police have said. 

Travellers have been cautioned and asked not to travel in the area till weather changes.
