5 national level power lifters die in car crash

New Delhi : Five national level power lifters, including gold medallist Saksham Yadav, lost their lives in a car crash near Delhi Haryana border.

As per reports, their speeding car lost its control and rammed into a pole near Singhu. The impact was so huge that their car – a Maruti Swift Dzire with registration number DL4CAU 9585 – rolled over several times before coming to a stop.

The car was sporting a Ministry of Defence board in front of it.

The cops are suspecting it to be a case of drunken driving as couple of liquor bottles have been recovered from inside the vehicle.

Saksham had won a gold medal in the junior category in 2016 and one in the senior category in 2017 in the world championships.

Of the five deceased, the four who died on the spot have been identified as Tikamchand alias Tinka, 27, a bouncer by profession, Saurabh, 18, a helper in a gym, Yogesh, 24, a private video camera operator, and Harish Roy, 20, a student. All of them were residents of north Delhi's Timarpur.
