Winter Session: PMO failed in implementing demonetisation policy, says former PM Manmohan Singh

Winter Session: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi : Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday lent support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision of banning the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes as legal tender. However, he slammed BJP-led government for not implementing it properly.

Manmohan Singh spoke in Rajya Sabha after both opposition and the government agreed to start debate at 12 noon.

He also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come up with a practical solution to the problems people are facing.

Claiming that time frame of 50 days, which PM Modi has asked from people, is giving nightmares to the poor people of India.

60-65 people have lost their lives and this is decreasing people’s confidence in currency and banking system.

Former PM also claimed that India’s GDP will likely see a dip of about 2 per cent.
