Congress Legislature Party to meet on Wednesday (Lead)

Jaipur : The Congress said on Tuesday after winning the Rajasthan Assembly election that it has called a meeting of its newly elected legislators on Wednesday to decide who the new Chief Minister should be.

AICC General Secretary in-charge of Rajasthan Avinash Pandey and AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said here that the newly elected Congress MLAs would meet at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Pandey said he and Venugopal would also individually meet each MLA to know his opinion. They would also speak with senior leaders in the state.

"After that we would apprise the Congress President of the situation. The final decision would be of the Congress President," Venugopal said.

State Congress chief Sachin Pilot and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot were also present at the press conference.

The party is poised for a majority in the state with trends indicating it would bag 97 of the 199 seats for which elections were conducted.
