Delhi government levies Rs 5-lakh fine on DDA, polluting units

New Delhi : With air quality slipping into the "very poor" category, Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain on Monday imposed a hefty fine of Rs 5 lakh on a DDA industrial site after finding that waste burning was rampant there.

Hussain was on a surprise inspection at the B-Block Industrial Area when he found incidents of industrial waste burning at the DDA land, an official from Hussain's office said in a tweet.

"The minister has ordered the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to impose a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the concerned industrial units," the official said.

Hussain then went on to conduct another surprise inspection at an under-construction site of a mall behind Netaji Subhash Place, the official said.

At the site, the official said, the Minister ordered strict action against the owner, and builder for failing to implement dust-control norms.
