Edmund outlasts Berrettini in marathon 3-set win at China Open

Beijing : Britain's Kyle Edmund defeated Italy's Matteo Berrettini on Wednesday to advance to the quarter-finals of the China Open in Beijing.

Fifth-seeded Edmund won 7-5, 6-7, 7-5 in a closely fought encounter to eliminate the world number 58 from the tournament, reports Efe news.

The British number one took two hours and 48 minutes to finally overcome the Italian's challenge.

Edmund was just two points from defeat in the third deciding set before staging a late comeback.

He advances to the quarter-finals of the China Open, where he will face Croatian qualifier Dusan Lajovic.
