Haryana gives NOC for Kishau dam

Chandigarh : Haryana has given a no-objection certificate for the construction of the Kishau dam on the Tons, a tributary of Yamuna river along the borders of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, official sources said on Wednesday.

With the dam's construction, Haryana will get an additional 709 cusecs for drinking and irrigation.

An official spokesman said that as per a MoU signed between six states in 1994, Haryana's share in the Kishau dam is 709 cusecs out of live storage capacity of 1,324 million cubic metres.

Khattar along with the Chief Ministers of Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi signed the memorandum in August with Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi to construct the Lakhwar multi-purpose project in upper Yamuna basin.

With the construction of this project, Haryana will get 177 cusecs water, which is about 47 per cent of the total storage capacity.
