Landslide hit NH 10 opened for traffic movement

Siliguri : The landslide-hit National Highway 10, connecting Darjeeling district's Siliguri to Sikkim's capital Gangtok, was opened for vehicular movement on Friday after PWD workers toiled through the night to repair the damaged stretch in 29 Mile of Kalimpong district, officials said.

A large part of the road between Rambhi and Teesta Bazar was washed away by the Teesta river on Thursday following landslides triggered by heavy rains, cutting off Sikkim from Siliguri and leaving a large number of tourists stranded.

PWD Assistant Engineer Uttam pradhan said 20 meter of the highway had gone under the river.

However, the landslide-hit National Highway 31C at Mongpong was still in a precarious state on Friday.
