Man United defender Daley Blind returns to Dutch side Ajax

London : Manchester United confirmed on Tuesday that Netherlands defender Daley Blind is to return to Amsterdamsche Football Club (AFC) Ajax.

Blind, 28, has signed a four-year contract with Ajax after spending four years with Man United and winning four trophies, but was barely used by coach Jose Mourinho in the 2017-18 season, making 17 appearances in all competitions, reports Efe.

"We can confirm Daley Blind has left MUFC to join Ajax," Manchester United said in a statement, praising him as a "versatile and technically-gifted" player.

On Twitter, Blind said: "First of all, I want to say how proud I am to be a part of the Manchester United family. To play for the biggest club in the world with such a history meant a lot to me."

Blind had played for Ajax from 2005 until 2014, when he moved to United after a strong showing with the Netherlands' national team in the 2014 World Cup.

Although Man United did not give official figures of the sale, British media estimated the signing at around 14 million pounds sterling ($18.5 million), the same amount United paid for him four years ago.
