Moreno earn Flamengo draw with Palmeiras

Rio de Janeiro : Colombian striker Marlos Moreno struck his first goal in more than two years as Flamengo earned a 1-1 draw with Palmeiras in a battle between Brazil's Serie A leaders.

Dudu on Saturday opened the scoring at the Maracana stadium by deftly controlling a long diagonal pass from Antonio Carlos and then firing a 20-yard shot into the bottom left corner of Weverton's goal, reports Xinhua news agency.

Moreno sent the home fans into a frenzy shortly after his 68th minute introduction by dribbling into the penalty box and unleashing a shot that rebounded in off the post.

It was Moreno's first goal in 78 matches, a drought that dated back to March 8, 2016.

"I'm happy because I hadn't scored in a long time," Moreno said after the match. "But I would have been happy for the drought to continue if it meant that we'd won."

The result maintained Palmeiras' four-point lead over Flamengo at the top of the 20-team standings with seven matches remaining.

In other fixtures on Saturday, Santos routed Fluminense 3-0 and Corinthians beat Bahia 2-1.
