PDP MLA alleges harassment by police

Srinagar : The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator, from whose residence eight weapons were stolen by a Special Police Officer (SPO) last Friday, alleged on Thursday that he is being harassed by the police.

SPO Adil Bashir had stolen seven AK-47 rifles and a pistol from the official residence of PDP legislator Ajaz Ahmad Mir in Jawahar Nagar area of Srinagar city.

Mir said in his Facebook page on Thursday: "Is this policing? How can a Munshi (policeman) of Rajbagh Police Station abuse a legislator in front of dozens of other policemen?"

He also said the policeman levelled serious allegations and accusations against his family as well.

"Is this how police probe things here, by humiliating even legislators and levelling baseless allegations?" Mir said.

The police have constituted a Special Investigating Team (SIT) headed by a Superintendent of Police to probe the arms loot at the legislator's residence.

Meanwhile, the SPO who stole the weapons appeared on a social networking site posing with Hizbul commander Zeenat-ul-Islam.

The weapons stolen were also displayed in the social media post.
